Job Overview

Wanted: someone who thinks life should be lived, not watched. Some people watch life happen and others jump in with both feet. We're looking for the second kind.

Contract: 15h or 36h

Essential for the role:

  • This position has a ‘genuine occupational requirement’ covered under the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 and therefore only applications from females are requested.
  • Full UK drivers' licence

We're looking for a support worker to join a team supporting an amazing woman who believes life is for living not for watching.  You'll be helping Sarah live a full and meaningful life by supporting her to enjoy days out including theatre trips (bonus points if you can sing along to Mamma Mia! ) and spending time with her dog Dixie. You'll encourage her to try new experiences and make the most of every opportunity that comes her way. Just as importantly, you'll help fill her days with laughter, fun, and genuine connection, while also supporting her with her health needs, maintaining her home and building the confidence and independence to live life her way.

This isn't a role for someone who wants to sit in an office or count down the hours until home time. This is a role for someone who asks, "What shall we try next?"

Who are we looking for?

You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, but you do need to be:

  • Warm and bubbly, bringing positive energy to the day
  • Proactive and able to spot opportunities and help others achieve their goals
  • Comfortable supporting with personal and intimate care
  • Happy building genuine relationships
  • Flexible and adaptable so not to restrict Sarah
  • Someone who loves dogs (and doesn’t mind howling now and again!)
  • Able to have fun, not take yourself too seriously and be okay getting a bit dirty
  • Someone who can work in partnership with the family

Sarah has cerebral palsy and can walk independently at times but also relies on a wheelchair, so you'll need to be comfortable supporting her in different environments and helping her access the things she loves.  Some of the support Sarah needs is very personal. Whether assisting with personal care, eating and drinking, or other aspects of daily life, we're looking for someone who can approach these moments with empathy, sensitivity, and respect. The ability to understand how vulnerable these situations can feel is just as important as any practical skill.

The big question: Can you be the person who says, "Let's give it a go" rather than "We can't do that"?

If the answer is yes, we'd love to hear from you. Because the best support workers don't just provide support, they help create stories worth telling.

Benefits:

  • 5.6 weeks Annual Leave
  • Statutory sick pay
