Job Overview
Teacher - Alternative Provision
The Understudy, Sportfit Alternative Provision
Full-time, term-time only * £30,000 - £35,000 per annum
Are you a teacher who believes every young person deserves a personalised, tailored and trauma-informed chance at education?
Do you want to make a real, visible difference to learners who haven't always had things easy - and help them rediscover what they're capable of?
We're looking for a teacher to join the team at The Understudy, one of Sportfit's alternative provision settings. You'll deliver an engaging, flexible curriculum to young people who, for a variety of reasons, haven't been able to thrive in mainstream school - including the delivery of Functional Skills in English and Maths as part of a broader teaching role.
About the Role
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons across the curriculum, in small groups and one-to-one, tailored to where each young person is starting from.
- Deliver Functional Skills teaching as part of your wider timetable, supporting learners towards nationally recognised English and Maths qualifications.
- Work closely with a small, supportive staff team, including the AP Manager and pastoral colleagues, to put the right support around every learner.
- Be a consistent, calm and trusted presence for young people who need exactly that.
What We're Looking For
- A qualified teacher (or equivalent experience) with a background in alternative provision, SEMH, SEND, or a similar specialist setting.
- The ability and confidence to deliver Functional Skills (English and Maths) as part of a broader teaching role.
- Experience working with young people with SEMH needs, SEND, or those who've disengaged from mainstream education.
- Someone calm, resilient and genuinely motivated by helping young people who've had a tough run at education so far.
- A team player who's comfortable working flexibly in a small, close-knit AP setting.
What We Offer
- A genuinely rewarding role where the impact of your teaching is visible and immediate.
- A supportive, close-knit staff team and manageable class sizes.
- Ongoing training and professional development, including safeguarding and SEMH-specific CPD.
- Term-time only working, with a salary of £30,000-£35,000 per annum.
