The Role

As Head Teacher, you will lead the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of the school, ensuring the highest standards of education, safeguarding, and wellbeing. You will inspire a dedicated team, champion inclusive practice, and drive continuous improvement across all areas of school life.


Key Responsibilities

  • Shape and deliver the school's strategic vision and curriculum for Key Stages 3 and 4
  • Lead high-quality teaching and personalised learning pathways
  • Act as (or oversee) the Designated Safeguarding Lead, promoting a safe and inclusive environment
  • Manage the school's budget and resources effectively
  • Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing staff team
  • Build strong relationships with families, local authorities, and external partners
  • Represent and advocate for the school and its learners

About You

Essential:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Substantial leadership experience in special or alternative provision
  • Proven success in improving outcomes for learners with complex needs
  • Expertise in personalised curriculum design and inclusive pedagogy
  • Strong safeguarding knowledge and budget management experience
  • Experience of leading or contributing to Ofsted inspections, ideally within a special or alternative provision setting

Desirable:

  • Experience as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
  • National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH)
  • NASENCo qualification or equivalent experience in a SEND leadership role
  • Experience leading an independent school or alternative provision
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks for independent schools
  • Ability to lead and inspire a multidisciplinary team
